Pediatric Behavioral Health Specialist - Inpatient
About the role
The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) plays a crucial role in providing therapeutic support to patients through various groups and individual sessions. This role involves maintaining a safe and positive environment, leading educational groups, and collaborating with the treatment team to ensure patient care and safety.
Responsibilities
- Deliver therapeutic groups addressing core psychological vulnerabilities.
- Provide individual and ad-hoc supportive contact to validate negative feelings and offer coping strategies.
- Perform visual safety rounds, room checks, and inventory of patient belongings to maintain unit safety.
- Lead or co-lead educational and didactic groups.
- Ensure a positive and safe milieu by role-modeling prosocial attitudes and managing negative influences.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to manage patient care needs and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Take initiative to improve the work environment and guide others towards problem-solving and treatment questions.
- Mentor and orient new caregivers and students.
- Align with the Intermountain Operating Model and continuous improvement practices, including idea escalation, unit project coordination, and change management.
- Model appropriate and positive behaviors, coach peers and patients in real-time, and complete accurate documentation of groups, patient care interventions, and observations.
- May provide direct observation of acutely unsafe patients in collaboration with the treatment team and charge nurse, including instances when assigned to act as a 1:1.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Relevant work experience in a behavioral health or similar setting.
- High standards of professionalism and the ability to set a positive example for patients and other caregivers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or family studies (preferred).
- Minimum of 6 months relevant work experience in a behavioral health or similar setting.

Pay
The hourly range for this position is $19.50 - $26.48. Actual hourly rate is dependent upon experience.
