Wage: $265 per day. This position covers Physical Education and Health classes for grades K-5 from approximately November 18 to December 18, 2026.

About the role

Performs the teacher’s class plan while the teacher is out.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
  • Takes on all other duties of the absent teacher during their absence.
  • Prepares lesson plans with administrative assistance when plans are not available in the classroom.
  • Maintains appropriate records, including grading tests, recording grades, assigning homework, and completing clerical work to maintain student records.
  • Provides individualized and small-group assistance to students as indicated by lesson plans.
  • If in the same position for over 20 days, assumes full teacher job responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises students and oversees teacher’s assistants for instructional purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching license.
  • For long-term substitute assignments over 45 days, must hold a valid license in the specific subject area.
  • Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.

  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory in the field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance with district requirements and School Board policies.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet demands from various sources.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, talk, or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally push or move up to 10 pounds (e.g., a TV/VCR cart).
  • Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous interaction with the public and staff, occasionally handling multiple demands simultaneously.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a moderate noise-level environment.
