Job Description
Global Patent Solutions, LLC (GPS) is a leading patent research and IP consulting firm. We are expanding our team to support a contract with the USPTO for PCT-related tasks. As an independent contractor, you will conduct comprehensive searches, write opinions, and prepare reports on patent applications.
Contractor Responsibilities
- Quickly understand the inventive concepts in PCT specifications, drawings, and claims.
- Conduct a thorough search of patent and non-patent literature databases.
- Write an opinion/analysis by mapping the most relevant prior art to the PCT claims.
- Complete necessary forms and Search History Document.
- Make any corrections needed to meet quality standards.
Quality, Timeliness, and Continuous Improvement
- Quality is paramount; contractors must share GPS's commitment to excellence.
- Regular updates with GPS Management to ensure timely completion of work.
- Stay updated on PCT application processing practices through self-study and resources provided by GPS.
Deliverables
- Form 237 Written Opinion of the PCT application.
- Documentation of Prior Art References Used.
- Completed Search History Document.
Experience and Skills
Technical Requirements
- Strong technical background in one of these fields: Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices/Life Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering.
- Previous PCT Written Opinion experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a scientific or engineering field.
- U.S. citizenship or legal residency for the past two years.
- Physical presence in the U.S. during work.
- At least one year of PCT Written Opinion experience.
- Efficient, thorough, and repeatable prior art searching skills.
- Quick grasp of inventive concepts and ability to apply prior art effectively.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented and excellent communication abilities.
- Knowledge of WIPO PCT Articles and Rules.
- Familiarity with CPC and IPC classifications.
