About the Role
The Patient Care Technician at Erlanger Health Systems provides direct and/or indirect care to patients, functioning within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the position. This role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, exercise judgment in recognizing signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation, and effectively communicate with patients, team members, and adapt to change.
The position is based in the observation unit at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, TN, a hospitalist-driven floor with limited diagnoses.
Education
Required: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; or an occupational diploma paired with successful completion of the Project Search program; or meet one of the preferred qualifications listed below.
Preferred:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the State of Tennessee
- First Responder certification
- EMT certification
- Nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing
- Medical Assistant certification
- Pre-Med student
- Military Corpsman
- Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic certification
- Surgical Technician certification
Those employed as a Patient Care Technician prior to March 1, 2004, without the above educational requirements are grandfathered into the role but must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Experience
Preferred experience aligns with the educational qualifications listed above.
Requirements
- BLS Certification: Required prior to starting on the unit/department and must be maintained.
- Preferred Certifications: CNA, EMT, or First Responder (if applicable).
Schedule
Standard hours (full-time regular position).
