About the Role

The Patient Care Technician at Erlanger Health Systems provides direct and/or indirect care to patients under the delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for providing age-appropriate care in the emergency room.

The employee must exercise judgment to recognize signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation by a licensed nurse, communicate effectively with customers and team members, and adapt easily to change.

Responsibilities

  • Assist medical and nursing staff with phlebotomy, EKG, procedure set-up, and cleaning.
  • Provide patient care for a broad patient population in the emergency room.
  • Identify signs and symptoms that require further evaluation by a licensed nurse.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • BLS certification completed prior to starting in the unit/department and maintained thereafter.
  • De-escalation training/certification (e.g., CPI) within 6 months of hire and maintained ongoing.

Qualifications

Preferred: Active certification in one or more of the following:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the State of Tennessee.
  • First Responder.
  • EMT.
  • Nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing.
  • Medical Assistant.
  • Pre-Med student.
  • Military Corpsman.
  • Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic.
  • Surgical Technician.

Those employed as a Patient Care Technician prior to March 1, 2004, without the above educational requirements are grandfathered into the role.

All new hires must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.

Schedule

Standard hours (full-time, regular schedule).
