A Day in the Life
- Designs and documents multi-layer, high-density PCBs from schematics and engineering inputs, in compliance with IPC and industry standards.
- Interprets electrical, mechanical, and regulatory requirements into manufacturable board designs, guided by cross-functional engineering teams.
- Generates complete fabrication and assembly packages, including BOMs, Gerber/ODB++ files, pick-and-place data, and fabrication drawings per company standards.
- Develops and maintains ECAD libraries: creates and updates schematic symbols, PCB footprints, and 3D models, ensuring consistency across the Altium Designer library.
- Executes component placement and signal routing for digital, DDR4, RF, and power circuitry, optimizing for electrical performance and design feasibility.
- Determines optimal layer stackups including the use of blind and buried via structures to support high-complexity designs.
- Collaborates on design reviews: works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to support design reviews, manufacturability assessments, and iterative improvements.
- Supports external manufacturing: provides technical support to resolve layout-related issues with fabrication and assembly partners, ensuring on-time production.
- Drives process improvement: participates in design tool upgrades, workflow optimization, and the evolution of internal design standards and procedures.
- Manages multiple projects: effectively balances multiple PCB design tasks in parallel, ensuring timely delivery within aggressive development schedules.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) in engineering technology, electronics, or a related field preferred; equivalent technical training and experience will be considered.
- 5 or more years of experience in PCB design with more than 10 layers, using blind and buried via structures.
- 3 or more years of specialized experience using Altium Designer.
- Experience in Aerospace, Space, or other high-reliability industries is strongly preferred.
