About the role

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Coder 1 role focuses on learning coding conventions and understanding healthcare documentation.

Responsibilities

• Accurately code medical records and perform data entry tasks under supervision.
• Learn coding conventions and understand healthcare documentation.
• Engage in daily assignments that reinforce foundational coding skills.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification in coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) preferred.
• Basic knowledge of coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
• Expert use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
• RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential preferred.

Pay Rate Type: Hourly. Pay Grade: Health-23.
