Job Summary

The compensation target for this role is: $76,500 - $90,000. As Payroll Manager, you own the end-to-end payroll function for a growing workforce. You're the person everyone relies on to get it right — because getting it right matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own and process multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees
  • Manage payroll team (payroll, payroll taxes and payroll accounting)
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all payroll transactions — earnings, deductions, garnishments, commissions, and equity compensation
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations; manage tax filings, year-end W-2s, and ACA reporting
  • Partner with HR to ensure data integrity across HRIS and payroll systems; audit and reconcile records regularly
  • Partner with all other departments to ensure payroll objectives are met and that payroll needs are addressed
  • Manage team as they address payroll related questions and issues
  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors and stay ahead of system updates or changes
  • Build and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Review and help reconcile payroll accounting, journal entries, accruals, and audits
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate payroll processes as the company scales
  • Stay current on legislative changes affecting payroll and proactively surface any compliance risks

Required Skills, Education, Experience

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a management or lead role
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance and tax regulations
  • 3+ years of recent experience within Workday and Workday Payroll. Experience using Report Writer within Workday
  • Experience using a third-party administrator (TPA, such as OSV)
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets
  • Experience using NetSuite is a plus
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred
  • A high integrity — you handle sensitive data with discretion every single day
  • A detail orientation that borders on obsessive (we mean that as a compliment)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A proactive mindset — you don't wait for problems to find you

Physical Requirements

  • Remaining in stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 15 pounds in all directions
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned
