Payroll Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete payroll process for multiple payroll schedules, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Process new hires, employee changes, terminations, direct deposits, tax updates, and payroll adjustments.
  • Calculate and process complex compensation changes, bonuses, stipends, retroactive pay, and final paychecks.
  • Serve as the primary payroll resource for employees and managers, responding to payroll-related questions and resolving issues.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources regarding employee records, paid time off, benefits administration, and payroll-related updates.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, and support month-end close activities.
  • Maintain payroll records while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax reports.
  • Cook up year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and payroll reconciliations.
  • Cook up internal and external audits by preparing payroll schedules and required documentation.
  • Aid with payroll budgeting, headcount reporting, and labor cost analysis.
  • Generate payroll reports and provide insights to leadership to support business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Help support the implementation of a new HRIS/payroll platform.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Maintain payroll system integrity and assist with testing and implementation of system enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years managing or leading payroll operations.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, including quarterly and annual filings.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience managing large datasets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience leading or participating in an HRIS or payroll system implementation.
  • Experience working with multi-pay cycle payroll environments.
  • CPP certification or similar payroll certification is a plus.
