Payroll Manager
Responsibilities
- Direct full-cycle payroll activities for a high-volume employee population, ensuring wages, variable compensation, and related payments are processed accurately and on schedule.
- Supervise and support a team of 4 to 5 payroll specialists, setting clear expectations and promoting consistent, high-quality output.
- Maintain payroll calendars and oversee critical deliverables such as tax submissions, year-end statements, reconciliations, and required payroll documentation.
- Monitor adherence to applicable federal, state, provincial, and local payroll regulations to reduce risk and uphold compliance standards.
- Prepare payroll data, audit support materials, and operational reports for internal review and external requirements.
- Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and relevant vendors to address payroll questions, resolve discrepancies, and improve cross-functional coordination.
- Manage payroll system effectiveness by identifying issues, supporting troubleshooting efforts, and helping maintain reliable integrations with related platforms.
- Contribute to process improvements, team training, and operational continuity as the organization navigates workforce and structural changes.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll operations in a high-volume environment supporting more than 500 employees.
- Strong background in multi-state payroll administration with a solid understanding of payroll compliance requirements.
- Prior leadership experience overseeing payroll staff and coordinating daily workload across a small team.
- Hands-on expertise with UKG Pro and confidence working within payroll systems and related reporting tools.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and produce accurate reports.
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle payroll processes, including tax reporting, year-end activities, and payroll reconciliations.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and discretion.
