What You'll Do
- Payroll Operations & Compliance
- Oversee and actively participate in end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Review payroll audits, reconciliations, adjustments, and off-cycle payroll runs.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, tax reconciliations, and audits.
- Maintain payroll controls, documentation, and compliance standards.
- Payroll Accounting
- Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries.
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Accurately allocate payroll expenses across departments and cost centers.
- Partner with Finance to ensure payroll expenses are accurately reflected in financial statements.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop payroll team members.
- Establish priorities and workflows to ensure payroll deadlines are consistently met.
- Promote accountability, accuracy, and customer service excellence.
- Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Serve as the payroll system subject matter expert.
- Support payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and integrations.
- Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Benefits, Tax, and Information Technology teams.
- Ensure payroll data integrity, confidentiality, and audit readiness.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3-5 years of payroll leadership, supervisory, or lead experience.
- Experience managing multi-state payroll operations.
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and garnishments.
- Experience preparing payroll-related accounting journal entries and reconciliations.
- Experience with payroll systems such as Paylocity, ADP, UKG, Workday, Paychex, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Experience supporting multi-location organizations.
- Shared services payroll experience.
Pay & Benefits
- $90,000 - $110,000/annually depending on experience.
