About the Role
Performs operations of the Payroll Department. Responsible for updating the payroll system, including hours worked weekly, new hires, terminations, payroll changes, and distribution of payroll checks. Prepares various reports and payments for filing or transmittal to the third-party payroll administrator, credit union, insurance carriers, and governmental agencies.
Responsibilities
- Performs all regular duties associated with the preparation, generation, and distribution of payroll checks:
- Prepares payroll data input sheets reflecting new hires, terminations, rate changes, vacations, wage assignments/garnishments, hours and dollars for all employees, and voluntary deductions.
- Investigates questionable entries as necessary.
- Reviews approved personnel action forms to determine names and rates of pay of new hires, wage rate changes, and termination/leave of absence transactions of other employees.
- Prepares time sheets for subsequent pay periods and time cards for future vacationers.
- Verifies third-party payments.
- Stuffs individual pay envelopes and distributes appropriately.
- Ensures all benefit deductions are updated in the payroll system.
- Prepares all data for open enrollment.
- Handles non-routine unscheduled payroll transactions, including:
- Vacation checks
- Issuing stop-payment orders
- Issuing replacement checks
- Preparing hand-drawn checks for emergency leaves, terminations, and late vacations
- Preparing input data for reporting hand-drawn check transactions
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area to provide a safe working environment for all employees.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of typical corporate payroll transactions, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish, enhance, and maintain prudent records and files as required by the Company and mandated records for all government agencies.
- Skilled in the use of office equipment, including data processing systems.
- Basic computer skills required; Excel experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ADP Workforce software is preferred.
Qualifications
- College degree is preferred.
- Two or three years of experience in computerized payroll preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities.
