Payroll Accountant to join its accounting team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who combines hands-on payroll experience with a strong understanding of general accounting and general ledger processes. The Payroll Accountant will play an important role in payroll processing, payroll accounting, reconciliations, tax reporting, month-end activities, and accounting analysis. Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for a large, multi-state employee population consisting of both hourly and salaried employees.
- Prepare and post payroll journal entries into the accounting system.
- Perform payroll reconciliations and ensure payroll activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and record month-end payroll accruals.
- Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with payroll tax reporting and compliance.
- Perform accounting analysis and support general accounting activities as needed.
- Maintain payroll-related information within the payroll/accounting systems.
- Prepare reports and provide information in response to internal requests.
- Assist with month-end close and other accounting functions.
- Identify discrepancies and work to resolve payroll and accounting issues in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; an Associate's degree may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on payroll experience, ideally supporting 300+ employees.
- Strong general accounting and general ledger experience.
- Experience with payroll reconciliations, payroll accounting, and payroll tax reporting.
- Experience working with a large-scale payroll or ERP system.
- Oracle experience strongly preferred; experience with a comparable enterprise-level system will be considered.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage confidential payroll and employee information.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting and payroll teams.
