About the Opportunity

Payroll Accountant to join its accounting team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who combines hands-on payroll experience with a strong understanding of general accounting and general ledger processes. The Payroll Accountant will play an important role in payroll processing, payroll accounting, reconciliations, tax reporting, month-end activities, and accounting analysis. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to expand beyond traditional payroll responsibilities and take on broader accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for a large, multi-state employee population consisting of both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries into the accounting system.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and ensure payroll activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare and record month-end payroll accruals.
  • Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with payroll tax reporting and compliance.
  • Perform accounting analysis and support general accounting activities as needed.
  • Maintain payroll-related information within the payroll/accounting systems.
  • Prepare reports and provide information in response to internal requests.
  • Assist with month-end close and other accounting functions.
  • Identify discrepancies and work to resolve payroll and accounting issues in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; an Associate's degree may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on payroll experience, ideally supporting 300+ employees.
  • Strong general accounting and general ledger experience.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations, payroll accounting, and payroll tax reporting.
  • Experience working with a large-scale payroll or ERP system.
  • Oracle experience strongly preferred; experience with a comparable enterprise-level system will be considered.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential payroll and employee information.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting and payroll teams.

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate will be someone who has worked in a high-volume payroll environment while also having a solid foundation in general accounting. This position is particularly well suited for a Payroll Accountant, Senior Payroll Specialist, Payroll Analyst, or Accounting professional who has experience bridging payroll and general ledger functions.
