Payload Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Stratolaunch is seeking a Level II or Senior Mechanical or Structural Design Engineer to lead the design, build, and integration of experimental customer payloads on the Talon-A hypersonic vehicles. This is a mechanical design engineering role, not a systems engineering position.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build, and integration of experimental customer payloads on the Talon-A hypersonic vehicles
• Work closely with customers to understand payload requirements and translate them into engineering solutions
• Contribute to the development of new technologies and methodologies for hypersonic vehicle design and payload integration
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including aerodynamics, propulsion, and software engineers to ensure payload compatibility and system performance
• Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation of payload components and interfaces
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to payload integration and safety

Requirements

• Proficient with 3D CAD modeling, assembly management, and PDM
• Experience with NX or SolidWorks
• Experience with structural analysis methods (hand calcs, FEMAP, Ansys, etc.)
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
• Familiarity with configuration management systems such as Jira
• Familiarity with requirement management systems such as Jama, Cameo, DOORS, etc.

Qualifications

• Experience working in small, dynamic engineering teams where each member often has multiple responsibilities
• Active TS/SCI security clearance

Skills

• Excellent written & verbal communication
• Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance
