Pawnbroker/Sales Associate - Braswell & Son
About the role
Braswell & Son has been family owned since 1979, growing from one small jewelry store in Little Rock to eight stores across Arkansas and Tennessee. We're looking for a Pawnbroker to join our team—no pawn experience or jewelry background required. If you like people and show up ready to work, we’ll teach you the rest.
Responsibilities
- Greet every customer warmly and make them feel welcome.
- Ask questions and listen to understand what customers truly need.
- Evaluate items brought in by customers—gold, diamonds, watches, designer bags, tools, electronics—and determine their value.
- Write pawn loans and explain terms clearly so customers understand.
- Sell merchandise to customers who are excited to buy.
- Maintain the store, handle money responsibly, and safeguard merchandise.
One hour you might help someone pick out an engagement ring; the next, assist a neighbor with a car repair. Both matter.
Why people stay
- Reliable pay: Hourly base pay plus commission and a weekly spiff when you hit your targets. Paid every Friday by direct deposit.
- Predictable schedule: Schedules posted in advance; closed on major holidays.
- Ongoing training: A coach, a 90-day written plan, and support when you need it.
- Team support: Small stores with tight crews—no one is left to figure things out alone.
Career growth
This role is a starting point, not a dead end. We promote from within: Pawnbrokers can advance to Lead, Assistant Manager, and Store Manager. By 2030, we aim to grow pawn operations to $4 million and earn 15,000 Google reviews—we need leaders to help us get there.
Who thrives here
Our best people come from diverse backgrounds—retail, restaurants, warehouses, banking, the military, or first-time job seekers. What they share:
- Honesty, even when it means walking away from a sale.
- Enjoy talking to strangers and building rapport.
- Reliability—people can count on you to show up.
- A desire to learn and grow.
Requirements
- 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Able to pass a background check that meets our standards and the law.
- Able to stand, move for most of your shift, and lift up to 50 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation).
- Comfortable learning a computer and point-of-sale system.
- Available for retail hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Spanish/English bilingual is a plus, not a requirement.
Pay
Base pay: $15–$20 per hour (depending on experience), paid weekly by direct deposit. Weekly commission on qualifying sales, plus a weekly productivity spiff.
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid time off (PTO).
- 401(k) with matching.
- Employee discounts.
- Gym membership.
- Tuition reimbursement.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
- Corporate chaplain services.
- Wellness resources.
