Paving Roller Operator

About the role

Hinkle Contracting, LLC, a CRH company, seeks a skilled operator to join our paving crew. This position operates various types of rolling equipment to achieve a quality finished product in the paving process, with a focus on meeting compaction requirements and aesthetic standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.
• Thoroughly understand all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
• Familiarity with vibrating frequencies in comparison to maximum depth.
• Follow grades and ensure the efficient working condition of the equipment, performing minor servicing and maintenance or referring major problems to the supervisor.
• Follow directions of the manager regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Able to communicate effectively.
• Able to maintain excellent interpersonal skills.
• Perform any other general duties as specified.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Two years related asphalt and road construction experience.
• Prior experience with asphalt paving & rolling equipment.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
• Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.
• Valid driver’s license meeting state requirements.
• Motor Vehicle Record meeting company standards.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Willingness to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
• Willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
• At least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
• Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
