Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drives and operates pavers, as well as one or more machines such as backhoes, grinders, graders, lowboys, roller, jackhammer, compressors, and trucks.
- To perform specified activity such as moving material, leveling, grading, and paving.
- Checks equipment daily for oil, fluid levels, damage and wear areas (teeth, grinder, etc.).
- Fuels equipment daily.
- Determines speed and direction on machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
- Understands all aspects of paving industry prep work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Reports all damage or required repairs as needed to the mechanic on duty in a timely manner.
- Completes equipment checklist and turns in on a daily basis.
- Loads and unloads equipment from trailers.
- Ensures that equipment is correctly secured on trailers.
- Ensures equipment is cleaned at the end of each job, each day.
- Operates equipment safely at all times.
- Does not allow riders on the equipment while operating.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations and practices preventive safety measures.
- Performs non-operator, general labor work as needed including driving, shoveling, raking, rolling and flagging duties.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Class A CDL preferred.
- Follows all traffic regulations.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work weekends and occasional nights.
- Ability to travel to various worksites.
- Ability to work long hours and in all weather conditions.
