Patrol Officer

About the role

The Dougherty County Police Department is hiring on a continuous basis for a Patrol Officer. The purpose of this position is to ensure public safety and to enforce local, state, and federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Patrols designated area;
• Enforces traffic laws;
• Issues traffic citations;
• Investigates traffic accidents;
• Congducts motor vehicle traffic stops;
• Redirects and controls traffic flow when necessary;
• Investigates criminal/civil complaints;
• Makes arrests when necessary;
• Completes incident/accident reports;
• Completes daily activity sheet;
• Operates emergency vehicles;
• Uses hand-held and vehicle radio and communication equipment;
• Uses radar equipment;
• May escort funeral processions;
• May assist citizens with animal control complaints;
• Must be able to work rotating shifts.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
• At least 21 years of age;
• United States citizen;
• Georgia POST Certification as a Peace Officer and in good standing, or ability to become certified within six months of employment;
• Able to clear background investigation;
• Able to pass a job valid physical endurance test;
• In proportion for height/weight standards.
