Responsibilities
- Transports patients safely between hospital departments for procedures, testing, admissions, and discharges.
- Affixes patients onto stretchers, wheelchairs, or beds and ensures safe positioning during transport.
- Communicates with nursing and clinical staff to coordinate patient transport requests.
- Verifies patient identification prior to transport according to established procedures.
- Transports medical equipment, supplies, and other materials as needed.
- Maintains patient comfort and safety during transport and reports concerns to clinical staff.
- Maintains cleanliness and readiness of transport equipment including wheelchairs and stretchers.
- Fulfills infection control procedures and safety protocols.
- Maintains courteous and professional communication with patients, families, and staff.
- Affixes with maintaining an organized and safe patient transport environment.
Requirements
- Education/Skills: High School Diploma or GED required, or In lieu of a High School Diploma or GED, two (2) years of relevant work experience above the minimum qualification.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare support, patient transport, customer service, or a related service role preferred.
- Skills: Ability to safely transport patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, and hospital beds; Knowledge of basic patient safety and handling techniques; Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with patients and healthcare staff; Ability to follow safety procedures and patient identification protocols; Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in a healthcare environment; Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team; Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
