Full-time, evening shift position (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) at IU Health University Hospital. Team members are required to work every other weekend and holiday. Eligible for shift pay differentials.
About the role
The Patient Transporter plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients throughout the healthcare facility.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients to and from points of service, including admissions, discharges, ancillary areas, and other service locations via bed, stretcher, or wheelchair.
- Safely handle patients and equipment during transport.
- Monitor and report any changes in a patient's condition during transportation.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transfers.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including infection control policies.
- Ensure timely transport of patients to minimize delays in care.
- Follow oxygen transport policy and procedures, including attaching and monitoring oxygen tank levels during transport.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience, including graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program.
- Training in assigned competencies such as patient oxygen equipment, patient lifting and transfers, and infection control policies.
- Ability to frequently work in a standing position and perform large amounts of walking.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform stooping, bending, and twisting while handling weights.
- Ability to use repetitive motions such as grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, and forearm/wrist rotation daily.
- Ability to perform basic patient lifting through in-service training for proper technique.
