PATIENT TRANSPORTER

Responsibilities

• Arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e., stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request.
• Stop at the Nursing station to retrieve the chart and/or card, report to the patient's room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, and introduce themselves to the parents, patient, and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport the patient to the appointment.
• Transport bodies of deceased patients to the Morgue.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
• Must be able to read and write English.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

Schedule

• Standard hours: 40 per week.
• Work days: Sunday-Thursday.
• Shift start/end times: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
