Patient Transporter
About the role
The Patient Transporter promptly and safely transports patients to and from procedures, tests, and between units according to established policies, procedures, and time schedules. This Position Supports Organizational Goals By Providing Quality Customer Service, Enhancing Patient Throughput And Operational Efficiency, Participating In Performance Improvement Efforts And Demonstrating a Commitment To Teamwork And Cooperation.
Responsibilities
- Understands and follows all policies and procedures.
- Determines patient identifiers, destination, mode of travel, time, and other relevant information.
- Directs or escorts incoming patients from the admitting office or reception area to designated locations and assists patients, whether ambulatory or non-ambulatory.
- Transports patients or deceased individuals, alone or with assistance, using beds, stretchers, gurneys, wheelchairs, or other equipment as needed.
- Helps maintain a safe working environment for all patients, visitors, and employees, promptly reporting unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries to a supervisor.
- Participates in safety meetings, training sessions, and hazard assessments, and applies all applicable OSHA and local safety requirements to assigned work.
- Performs all duties in accordance with established safety procedures, regulations and policy, attends designated training programs, and carries out other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- American Heart Association BLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- Minimum six months' experience preferred, within hospital patient care services.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

- Understanding of hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to determine patient identifiers and transportation needs.
- Assistance skills for transporting patients.
- Safety awareness and reporting.
- OSHA and local safety compliance.
