Patient Transportation Aide - PRN

About the role

Join us at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, a century‑old institution dedicated to patient‑centered care and community service. As a Patient Transportation Aide, you will ensure the timely, comfortable, and accurate transfer of patients, medical equipment, and related items, playing a critical role in providing patients access to the attention and treatment they need.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and their personal property using wheelchairs, carts, and beds during admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
• Move patients with or without IVs and oxygen to and from Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Physiology, and other departments, including the morgue as necessary.
• Clean, sanitize, and account for transportation equipment, wheelchairs, and patient carts; store them in designated areas.
• Provide wheelchairs for ACC, other areas, and visitors; restock portable oxygen tanks; respond to all transport requests promptly.
• Activate and complete tasks at the start or end location via the phone system.
• Notify nursing caregivers, clinicians, technicians, or reception upon patient arrival.
• Complete required logs and forms, including Critical Information.
• Verify correct patient identification using armband, chart, pager, DOB, or other appropriate means.
• Assist nursing caregivers in bedding or moving patients from bed to wheelchair or stretcher.
• Consult with nursing caregivers before lifting and transferring patients and obtain assistance when necessary.
• Complete transports quickly and efficiently; notify dispatchers of assignment initiation, completion, delays, or cancellations.
• Apply knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Demonstrated interest and aptitude for the role.
• Genuine concern and care for patient welfare.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring assistance with minimal help.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Minimum hourly: $16.50 – Maximum hourly: $16.50. The displayed range reflects the anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation will consider work history, experience, skill set, and education. The range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions, etc.).
