Job Summary

The patient transport driver at Sheridan Memorial Hospital provides safe, courteous, and efficient transportation of patients to appointments and activities off-campus. This position helps ensure the safety of patients and other staff members during trips and ensures that the assigned vehicle is in safe operating condition.

Essential Duties

  • Drives an organization-provided vehicle to transport patients safely to other healthcare facilities within Wyoming or surrounding states, as needed.
  • Participates with cottage life as needed (for example, helping activities, assisting with cares, culinary tasks).
  • Aids patients in getting in and out of the vehicle and safely inside their respective destination.
  • Ensures the safety of passengers with severe physical, mental, or developmental problems while in vehicle.
  • Aids other staff members with patient de-escalation strategies as needed.
  • Maintains a professional image and attitude with patients, coworkers, and facility staff members.
  • Reports any driving hazards, travel delays, accidents, and/or passenger incidents to the supervisor.
  • Completes vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections, trip log, and maintains vehicle cleanliness.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Completes any other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current valid Wyoming CNA license or current valid EMT license, strongly preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience required.
  • Current valid Wyoming driver’s license.
  • BLS, required.
  • Central Registry, required.

Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of safe driving practices.
  • Exercises good judgment and extreme caution while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to read and interpret a map and operate/understand GPS devices for driving directions.
  • Remains calm and focused in escalated or emergency situations.
  • Exhibits a high degree of tolerance and patience.
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality mandates.

Specific Demands

  • May be exposed to blood and/or body fluids/infectious disease/hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • May be exposed to odorous chemicals/specimens and Latex products.

Pre-Employment

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
