About the role
The Transportation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for transporting patients and/or specimens throughout the assigned area. This role involves ensuring safe handling of patients, maintaining communication with dispatch and modality, and following established protocols.
Responsibilities
- Transports patients by wheelchair and stretcher/bed, ensuring safety and preventing falls.
- Transports patients to and from appropriate units or imaging modalities within expected time frames, ensuring patient charts are brought along.
- Maintains open communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit regarding task status, changes, and delays.
- Handles patient support apparatus like IV pumps and oxygen tanks safely during transport.
- Removes unsafe or unclean equipment from service.
- Exchanges oxygen tanks as needed.
- Picks up slides for physicians to review from the laboratory as requested.
- Uses automated systems to assist with patient throughput.
- Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
- Identifies and responds to the needs of the patient population served, modifying care based on developmental, educational, and cultural considerations.
- Assists with environmental duties such as picking up and disposing of recyclables and linens.
- Adheres to cleaning requirements and procedures as assigned.
- Complies with organizational competencies outlined by HMH.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent programs.
- Utilizes social skills and communicates appropriately to alleviate fears and/or anxiety of the patient.
