Patient Svcs Representative (Adolescent Medicine)
Join the Adolescent Medicine team in Oakland as a full-time Patient Services Representative. This is a dynamic and collaborative department dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a compassionate and inclusive environment.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
About the Role
As one of three registrars, you will assist with patient check-in/out overflow, handle phone calls and portal messages for appointment scheduling and provider communication, manage incoming faxes and mail, and conduct follow-ups with families for appointment reminders. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients upon arrival and provide a warm, service-oriented experience.
- Help patients navigate the healthcare system with clear, understandable instructions.
- Provide follow-up on unresolved patient questions or needs to ensure continuity of care.
- Assist with administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing.
- Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check them in at the desk based on preference.
- Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services at checkout.
- Understand and apply principles of service recovery to address and resolve service issues.
- Educate patients on financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
- Obtain patient or family signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility in compliance with HIPAA.
- Confirm and verify insurance benefits via online systems or telephone inquiries.
- Promote and assist patients with MyUPMC patient portal registration.
- Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
- Register patients in the Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and explain its benefits.
- Confirm and/or update patient registration information at checkout.
- Appropriately distribute and triage phone calls to other areas or clinical providers.
- Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, office equipment, and proficient typing skills is preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service role is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who change residency to the state where the facility is located will have 60 days to apply for licensure within that state.
