About the Role

The Patient Caregiver functions under the direction of a licensed professional nurse, assisting with patient care needs and maintaining continuous observation to keep patients from harm.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal care (washing hands/face, oral care, bathing), including dressing, mobility, toileting, personal hygiene, and eating under the discretion of the nurse.
• Report to nursing staff care activities performed and maintain open communication regarding the patient's medical and emotional condition.
• Report any changes in patient's health status and ensure patient safety.
• Accompany patients for clinical tests and procedures when off the unit.
• Actively participate in required staff meetings and in-services.
• Assist patients with mobility on the unit, around the room, and to and from the bathroom under the discretion of the nurse.
• Assist the nurse or CNA in ambulating the patient about the room, on the unit, or to and from the bathroom if the patient requires assistance.
• Communicate regularly with the RN assigned to the patient.
• Communicate well with patients and families, avoiding topics that could upset them.
• Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.
• Display and promote a positive public image and approach to staff, physicians, patients, families, and the public.
• Do not leave the patient at any time without RN approval and relief.
• Be flexible with work schedule and help cover sitter needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certification within 90 days of hire.

Pay

$15.30–$22.19/hour
