Patient Sitter, Emergency Department

About the role

The Patient Sitter reports to a Staff Nurse and is responsible for constant attendance with a specific patient to ensure their safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous observation of the patient until relieved by a qualified individual.
• Report any observed changes in the patient’s condition/behavior to the patient’s nurse.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• Must successfully complete University Hospital’s Handle with Care and Sitter Training Courses as part of orientation and before assuming the Patient Sitter role.
• Fulfills physical demands as per the job description.
• Passes FIT Testing.
• Attends Handle with Care Training annually and participates in bi-annual drills.
