About the Role
The Patient Services Specialist 3 provides advanced administrative support in a physician's office, clinic, or other healthcare setting. This senior role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care by handling complex tasks, escalations, and assisting in staff training. The position also serves as a backup supervisor when needed.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the hiring process and serves as a peer interviewer.
- Performs all duties associated with patient relations, including check-in/check-out, scheduling, insurance verification, and phone support.
- Handles complex tasks and responds to escalated issues professionally.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives, facilitates team meetings, and tracks metrics.
- Mentors and trains staff on processes, procedures, and software applications.
- Monitors team performance to ensure training is utilized and identifies additional training needs.
- Serves as backup supervisor, managing schedules, assigning tasks, and following up on work results.
- Coordinates facility and equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Performs quality assurance audits and orders supplies as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in a healthcare administrative role.
- Advanced experience with surgery scheduling, referral management, insurance authorizations, and medical clearances, preferably in a specialty clinic setting.
- Thorough understanding of out-of-network insurance processes.
- Proficiency in personal computers and related software applications.
- Strong scheduling, multitasking, and prioritization skills for a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to mentor and train staff effectively.
- Knowledge of patient registration, medical insurance claims, and documentation procedures.
- Ability to examine unpaid third-party claims and delinquent accounts to ensure payment.
