Patient Services Specialist
About the role
Will handle most clerical duties associated with a medical clinic. The job of Patient Services Specialist (PSS) is divided into “stations.” Each station has a distinct set of job duties, which includes job duties that usually are performed by one employee in a usual day. However, in addition to the “usual” duties of the station they are sitting in, every PSS employee is required and expected to assist their co-workers in performing every job duty of a PSS at all times. All employees hired for the Patient Services Specialist position will be expected to learn and perform all duties of all front office stations. Due to the different office layouts, the person doing the named station that day or week may not perform some of the listed job duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical duties associated with a medical clinic
- Learn and perform all duties of all front office stations
- Assist co-workers in performing every job duty of a PSS at all times
- Apply strong copywriting and editing skills
- Maintain attention to detail and consistently meet time-sensitive priorities
- Remain highly organized with the ability to be flexible according to changing priorities
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED required
- Healthcare field experience highly preferred
- Attention to detail with strong ability to multitask
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills with a wide variety of personalities
- Strong copywriting and editing skills
- Highly organized with ability to be flexible according to changing priorities
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
Skills
- Analysis & Critical Thinking: Critical thinking skills including solid problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills. Must be detailed oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness: Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness. Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and sometimes emotionally charged matters.
- Communication Skills: Good command of the English language. Second language is an asset but not required. Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation), an active listener, and effectively provides balanced feedback.
- Customer Service & Organizational Awareness: Strong customer focus. Ability to build an engaging culture of quality, performance effectiveness and operational excellence through best practices, strong business and political acumen, collaboration, and partnerships, as well as a positive employee, physician and community relations.
