Responsibilities

  • Provide a warm, welcoming experience for all patients and visitors
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or complete check-in at the front desk based on patient preference
    • Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service
    • Confirm and update patient registration and demographic information during check-in and checkout
    • Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice and coordinate ancillary services as needed
    • Answer and appropriately triage incoming phone calls from patients, therapy facilities, and referring provider offices
    • Absorb and provide clear instructions to patients and ensure continuity of care
    • Follow up on unresolved patient questions or concerns to promote a positive patient experience
    • Utilize service recovery principles to address and resolve patient concerns in alignment with the UPMC Experience
    • Register patients in the Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and educate them on program benefits
    • Promote and support enrollment in the MyUPMC patient portal
    • Education patients regarding financial responsibilities and connect them with financial advocacy resources as appropriate
    • Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online verification systems and telephone inquiries
    • Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and other patient care support activities
    • Complete patient preregistration and insurance verification processes
    • Perform administrative duties including scanning medical records, faxing documents, and maintaining accurate patient records
    • Support clinic operations and contribute to an efficient, patient-centered workflow throughout the day

Credentials and Clearances

  • Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred
  • Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred
