Patient Services Representative

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming phone calls and dispatches calls as necessary
• Takes payments for copays and deductibles
• Makes financial arrangements for patients
• Performs check-in and check-out duties accurately and promptly
• Holds appointments for visits and alerts clinical employees and providers in case of emergencies
• Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, documenting information in the medical record and completing referrals to specialty providers and other services
• Accurately enters patient demographics into the practice management system
• Takes and correctly spells patient names and identifies them using two patient identifiers according to National Patient Safety Goals
• Manages and organizes workflow to meet patient needs efficiently
• Reports to the Office Manager/Supervisor

Qualifications

• 6 months customer service experience
• Preferred: 1-year clerical experience
• Preferred: Experience in cashier procedures and/or basic accounting, clinic check-in/check-out procedures, basic health insurance, HMO, PPO, and medical terminology
• Preferred: Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding
• Preferred: 6 months telephone customer service experience
