Patient Services Representative
Responsibilities
- Answers incoming phone calls and dispatches calls as necessary
- Takes payments for copays and deductibles
- Makes financial arrangements for patients
- Performs check-in and check-out duties accurately and promptly
- Holds appointments for visits and alerts clinical employees and providers in case of emergencies
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, documenting information in the medical record and completing referrals to specialty providers and other services
- Accurately enters patient demographics into the practice management system
- Takes and correctly spells patient names and identifies them using two patient identifiers according to National Patient Safety Goals
- Manages and organizes workflow to meet patient needs efficiently
- Reports to the Office Manager/Supervisor
Qualifications
- 6 months customer service experience
- Preferred: 1-year clerical experience
- Preferred: Experience in cashier procedures and/or basic accounting, clinic check-in/check-out procedures, basic health insurance, HMO, PPO, and medical terminology
- Preferred: Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding
- Preferred: 6 months telephone customer service experience
