Patient Services Representative

Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming phone calls and dispatches calls as necessary
  • Takes payments for copays and deductibles and makes financial arrangements for patients
  • Performs check-in and check-out duties accurately and promptly
  • Makes appointments for visits and alerts clinical employees and providers in case of emergencies
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, and documents the information in the medical record; also completes referrals to specialty providers, home health, etc.
  • Accurately enters patient demographics into the practice management system
  • Takes and correctly spells patient names and identifies them using two patient identifiers according to National Patient Safety Goals
  • Takes and directs clear, concise messages from pharmacies, physicians, and hospital personnel to the appropriate Clinical employee and/or Provider
  • Manages a high volume of telephone calls and patient interactions, maintaining excellent telephone etiquette
  • Organizes workflow to meet patient needs efficiently
  • Reports to the Office Manager/Supervisor

Qualifications

  • 6 months customer service experience
  • Preferred: 1-year clerical experience
  • Preferred: Experience in cashier procedures and/or basic accounting, clinic check in/out procedures, basic health insurance, HMO, PPO, and medical terminology
  • Preferred: General knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding
  • Preferred: 6 months telephone customer service experience
