Patient Services Representative

Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming phone calls and dispatches calls as necessary
  • Takes and collects payments for copays and deductibles
  • Makes financial arrangements for patients
  • Performs check-in and check-out duties accurately and timely
  • Handles appointment scheduling and informs clinical employees or providers of emergencies
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, and records the information in the medical record
  • Completes referrals to specialty providers, home health, etc.
  • Accurately enters patient demographics into the practice management system
  • Takes and correctly spells messages from various sources, directing them to the appropriate Clinical employee or Provider
  • Manages a high volume of call volume while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette
  • Organizes workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner
  • Reports to the Office Manager/Supervisor

Qualifications

  • 6 months customer service experience
  • 1-year clerical experience
  • Experience in cashier procedures and/or basic accounting
  • Experience with clinic check-in/out procedures
  • Knowledge of basic health insurance, HMO, PPO, and medical terminology
  • General knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding
  • 6 months telephone customer service experience
