About the role
The Patient Services Coordinator I supports Care Center operations by performing front-end clinical operational activities, such as registering/checking in patients, cashiering, gathering and providing appropriate information, collecting co-pays, and answering the phones under the direction of more senior Care Center staff.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments
- Ensure that appointments are confirmed prior to the date of service
- Maintain regular contact with patients, clinics, and departments regarding pending insurance clearances, coverage, issues, and/or follow-up activity
- Respond to patients, families, and clinic issues in a timely and professional manner
- Collect patient and treatment information, provide cost estimates, and determine patient liability
- Help to establish and coordinate payment arrangements with non-par payer sources
- Process various types of insurance for a clinic(s)/provider(s)
- Maintain a general and updated understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the Care Center
- Retrieve and assesses system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Patient Access department
- Afford assistance with training new Patient Services Specialist staff
- Perform all duties of the Patient Services Specialist and serve as a backup as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience, with a focus on scheduling, registration, and administrative support in a medical/healthcare setting, required
