Patient Services Associate - BHSL Child Diagnostic Unit

Summary of Job Duties

The Patient Services Associate (PSA) for the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) Child Diagnostic Unit is a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team who provides both clerical and patient care support. The PSA works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager (CSM) and under the direction of the RN, performing tasks and duties for which they possess the competency that do not require a licensed practitioner. In the clerical support role, duties include assisting with processing of medical records for patient admission and discharge and receptionist for the nursing unit.

Employee must successfully complete a UAMS-sponsored conflict management training to identify, prevent, and mitigate disruptive behaviors using methods such as non-escalation, de-escalation, personal protection from physical assaults, and physical alternatives within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or formal education equivalent
• 1 year of work experience in the Health Care field
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to accept and follow written and verbal instructions, ability to communicate following Guest Care guidelines
• Successful completion of the UAMS PCT and PSC courses

Additional Information

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner
• Register patients and verify demographic, insurance, and financial information
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments for behavioral health providers
• Answer incoming telephone calls and direct inquiries appropriately
• Maintain patient records and ensure accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR) system
• Obtain and process referrals, authorizations, and insurance verifications as required
• Collect copayments and process payments according to organizational procedures
• Cool communication between patients, providers, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare team members
• Aid with patient check-in and check-out processes
• Monitor provider schedules and assist with appointment management to optimize patient flow
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
• Support behavioral health staff with administrative tasks, reports, and correspondence
• Identify urgent patient concerns and appropriately escalate matters to clinical staff
• Perform other duties as needed
