About the role

This position registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services. It also verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for services requiring authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral. The role coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures, requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible parties, updates schedules for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes, and responds quickly to medical STATs and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that require authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Collaborates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
  • Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible parties.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • Frequent walking from different areas.
  • Ability to push a wheelchair with a patient in it and maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators.
  • Quick response to medical STATs and emergencies.
  • Sitting frequently.
  • Able to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Accurate spelling and attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to type 40 wpm.
  • Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third-party reimbursement preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills required.

Pay

$22.00 per hour, based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.
