Patient Safety Technician Nursing Support Pool Part Time Nights

About the Role

The Patient Safety Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Remains at the bedside of assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
• Provides calming and reorienting conversation with patients in cases of agitation or confusion.
• Identifies and removes hazards from the patient and patient's environment, and reports as appropriate.
• May assist patient with performing activities of daily living, as delegated by supervising RN, including ambulating, toileting, assisting with bed making, and positioning.
• Provides continuous safety observation via continuous video monitoring of patients identified to be at risk for causing injury to themselves or others. Responsibilities include:
  • Offering basic comfort measures to help the patient relax.
  • Addressing the emotional needs of specific patients served, including the use of encouragement, distraction, coping strategies, cognitive stimulation activities, and de-escalation techniques within the scope of this role.
• Remotely monitors multiple patients via continuous video monitoring. Responsibilities include:
  • Providing effective verbal redirection of designated remote continuous observation patients from engaging in risk behaviors.
  • Summoning appropriate staff via communication device/STAT Alert Alarm when appropriate.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
