About the role

We serve the health care needs of the people of Memphis and the Mid-South. Patient Safety Monitors are responsible for watching patients and observing behaviors that need to be escalated to the nurse. They model appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Continuous observation of the patient at all times (eating, using the restroom, etc.)
  • Accompanying patients off unit alongside nurses or other licensed clinical personnel (never alone)
  • Engaging verbally with the patient to redirect unwanted behaviors
  • Informing care team of non-compliant behavior for documentation
  • Never leaving the patient unattended
  • Undivided attention must be given to patients at all times
  • Using appropriate communication method when assistance is needed for either a break or to report changes of patient behavior to the nurse (i.e. call light, alert alarms, etc.)

Requirements

  • No formal training required
  • No prior work experience required
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred

  • Ability to read, write, and understand verbal or written instructions
  • Ability to communicate verbally with others
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to organize and complete tasks
  • Ability to work with age-specific populations including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Ability to effectively respond to safety protocols
