Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in delivering patient care as a nursing team member by executing tasks as directed by the nurse for patients requiring close observation.
- Maintains patient safety by adhering to hospital policy on infection control, performing hand hygiene, and implementing isolation precautions.
- Provides comfort measures and therapeutic activities to patients as directed by the nurse, such as assisting with vision and hearing aids, sleep and noise reduction strategies, orientation to surroundings, ambulation, and toileting.
- Reviews and understands the written care plan and tasks for the shift, receiving a report from the primary nurse upon arrival and reporting off to the primary nurse when leaving the unit.
- Communicates any special care needs to the primary nurse for inclusion in the patient's care plan and reports unusual conditions, patient concerns, or complaints to the primary nurse and/or management.
- Assists with safe transfers of patients to and from stretchers or wheelchairs to beds or chairs, employing safe transfer techniques, assistive devices as needed, and proper body mechanics.
- Adheres to safe transfer techniques and utilizes two patient identifiers and tickets to ride when transporting patients within the hospital.
- Utilizes Vocera and Zebra/IPOD devices appropriately to maintain patient privacy.
- Supports the continuity of patient care through harmonious working relationships with other staff members and appropriate interfacing with patients, families, and providers.
- Distributes equipment (such as pumps, wheelchairs, venodynes, VMS, feeding pumps, or as otherwise assigned) as requested by nursing floors within 15 minutes of the request.
- Assists with the transportation of stretchers or other equipment to hospital departments.
- Maintains and models Nuvance Health values.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Basic Life Support Certification is required within 6 months of hire date, transfer date, or by June 1, 2023 for existing PSC staff.
