Patient Safety Attendant (Patient Sitter)
About the role
Sovah Health Danville is seeking a Patient Safety Attendant to join their team. This role involves providing direct patient observation and input in planning care through communication with the RN and other patient care team members. The PSA will maintain the standard of care for assigned patients, communicate with the care team, and ensure a safe environment for patients requiring close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Provide observation for patients requiring supervision for safety reasons, including those on suicide precautions and those with compromised judgment.
- Absorb and communicate patient needs to the RN and other team members.
- Assist patients with general comfort needs, such as meals, re-positioning, and feeding.
- Interact with patients to provide diversionary activities like reading, puzzles, and conversation.
- Assist with patient re-positioning and transfers between beds and chairs.
- Escorts patients with ambulatory privileges and remains with the patient at all times.
- Transports patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to designated sites, including those with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and monitors.
- Adheres to the Suicide Precautions and Restraint Policies and Procedures when necessary.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of patients requiring close supervision.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in a patient care setting preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- HeartStart CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
