Patient Safety Attendant | Full Time | Nights

About the Role

The Patient Safety Attendant provides 1:1 monitoring with continuous visual observation (either in-person or on a video monitor) for adult or pediatric behavioral health patients or patients at risk for suicide, falls risk, altered mental status, and delirium. This role focuses on ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients at risk of harming themselves or those with altered mental status.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients and significant others in a respectful manner.
• Orients patient and/or significant other(s) to situation and surroundings.
• Documents care provided and reports observations of patient’s physical, social, and mental status to the RN.
• Maintains appropriate boundaries with patients.
• Ensures continuous supervision of patients; never leaves the patient unattended unless directed by the nurse.
• Prohibits the use of cell phones, laptops, books, etc., during patient observation.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Adheres to hospital policies, including bed/chair alarms, fall prevention, delirium, and safe patient handling.
• Maintains infection prevention standards.
• Collaborates closely with the healthcare team to foster a culture of compassion, respect, and teamwork.
• Supports and participates in the organization’s continuous quality improvement program.
• Recognizes patient emergencies and responds appropriately.
• Assists in preparing patient meal trays as directed by the RN.
• Assists with ambulation and mobilization activities for independent patients.
• Identifies risks such as falls or self-harm and promptly alerts the team to intervene early.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• American Heart Association Heart Saver or BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Management of Aggressive Behavior certification within 6 months of hire.
• Demonstrates ability to perform as a team member and effective communicator.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Regularly required to use fine motor skills, hear, speak, and walk.
• Frequently required to bend, reach, sit, squat, and stand.
• Occasionally required to climb, perform repetitive motion, kneel, and smell.
• Specific vision abilities required: color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision.
• Frequently exposed to airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids.
• Occasionally exposed to airborne contaminants, chemotherapeutic agents, electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, non-weather-related heat or cold, slippery surfaces, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Schedule

Available to work shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
