About the role
The Lead Patient Registration Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operations and staffing of the front office and related functions. The role involves accurate data collection, documentation, and retrieval using computerized systems, as well as patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, account maintenance, co-payments, referrals, authorizations, and billing inquiry functions. This position reports to the Manager/Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Greet, instruct, direct, and assist patients and visitors upon arrival or via telecommunication devices.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to parents, patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Serve as coordinator, expert, and liaison for healthcare services.
- Maintain medical records, filing systems, account balances, and reconciliation of daily accounts receivable.
- Perform charge entry and charge batching processes.
- Provide clerical and secretarial support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of related work experience.
- Ability to relate well with the public.
- Ability to effectively gather and exchange information in oral and written communications with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetical or numeric systems.
- Knowledge of computer data entry processes.
- General knowledge of ICD-9/CPT coding and third-party payer insurance verification processes and medical terminology.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and similar factors. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to certain patient care activities.
