Patient Registration Specialist I - RCO Financial Clearance

This position facilitates access to UTMB services for new and returning patients, coordinates financial arrangements including financial screening, and communicates with patients, referral sources, and the treatment team regarding patient access and financial issues.
Responsibilities
- Perform and master COR, ED, Admitting Registrations functions as defined in each area’s customized CBO tool.
- Verify all patient demographic, insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements for all services.
- Screen patients for financial responsibility and possible cash collections.
- Determine potential reimbursement sources available to the patient and direct patients toward financial assistance programs.
- Determine and collect appropriate deposit.
- Facilitate referrals and prior authorizations.
- Determine eligibility for third-party programs.
- Serve as an information resource for patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals by providing accurate and currently applicable information to accomplish patient satisfaction and maximum reimbursement.
- Train on and apply individual department-specific knowledge of ABN and PPA agreement forms.
- Meet minimum job performance standards for successful probationary and annual review, or as needed on an individual basis.
- Demonstrate ability to maintain Registration Quality Assurance (Q/A) expectations as defined by the specific departmental area, measured monthly and annually on performance review. Scoring includes any errors reported via internal and outside sources not included in the random Q/A process.
- Correct (or acknowledge) errors and return within the designated timeframe; monitored for excessive delayed response and compliance continuously and on annual performance review.
- Demonstrate ability to maintain acceptable Productivity Standard as defined by the specific departmental area and measured monthly and annually on performance review.
- Read and apply all announcements and relevant communications related to job duties as observed and monitored by the Q/A process.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new employees.
- Prioritize and complete all work in an accurate, effective, and efficient manner.
- Participate in team meetings/activities and support the philosophy and goals of the team, department, and UTMB.
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience with billing, financial screening, insurance verification, collections, and/or customer service required.
Working Environment
- Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments.
- Standard office equipment.
Schedule
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.
