About the role

The Patient Logistics Coordinator works under direction and supervision with the Hospital Flow Coordinator, Nurse Managers, Associate Nurse Managers, and Directors to ensure that each nursing unit receives patients appropriate for that specific unit. Coordinates assignments for tracking boards, PM Office, throughput of ICU, OR, Recovery, Resus, Procedural areas, ED, Med/Surg, direct admits, and internal transfers.

With indirect supervision, the coordinator facilitates patient flow through patient movement, environmental services support, bed-ahead strategy, and bed priority management. The Patient Logistics Coordinator assists nursing management with coordinating the staffing calendar and maintaining an appropriate staffing grid on every shift. Under supervision, coordinates staffing utilizing CSO pool, Per Diem staff, and Agency personnel through contracts and Per Diems. Responsible for sitter allocation and management. Assists nursing leadership with verification of skill sets and ensures staff are licensed and compliant with all requirements. Assists with the onboarding and ongoing competency of all personnel to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the assignment of patient care beds across the hospital.
• Document bed placement activities in the Electronic Tracking System in a timely and accurate manner.
• Act as a liaison between physicians, patient/family, hospital staff, patient care areas, and outside agencies to promote efficient patient flow.
• Evaluate all bed requests using approved criteria for level of care orders and bed assignments.
• View hospital bed status at a glance, drilling down to the nursing unit level to ensure patients are admitted to the correct department, improving patient care with faster and safer outcomes.
• Perform all other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.
• High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
• Valid license or certification as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Physical Requirements

• Job function requires extended standing or walking.
• Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
• Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
• Frequent visual acuity required for activities related to extended use of computers.
