About the role

The Patient Financial Services Representative (PFSR) serves as the first point of contact in greeting patients and guarantors in various healthcare settings. The PFSR engages with patients to gather necessary information and answer any questions to ensure all required demographic, financial, and insurance eligibility information is gathered and verified.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.
  • Communicates with physicians' staff, nursing unit staff, and other appropriate personnel to exchange necessary information.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains pre-certification/authorization as necessary.

Education and Certification Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One (1) year of related hospital, medical office, or customer service experience is preferred.

Other Information

In Memorial Physician Group (specialty practices), additional responsibilities include obtaining specialty authorizations, handling authorization denial and peer-to-peer processes, patient care navigation, handling incoming calls and physician/hospital back lines, obtaining and confirming referrals, and managing patient care coordination for specific populations. In the Hospital, additional responsibilities include placing identification bands on patients, obtaining signatures for hospital-specific regulatory forms, obtaining authorizations for walk-in appointments, determining when financial assistance is needed, and managing patient care coordination. In Memorial Primary Care, additional responsibilities include processing referral work-questions and same-day access requests, addressing prescription refill requests, patient advice requests through MyChart, and provider scheduling templates.
