About the role

The Patient Financial Services Representative at UP Health System - Marquette supports patients and community members interfacing with the hospital and clinics. Our goal is to empower a diverse and determined workforce to drive quality, scalability, and significant impact.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and explains charges, services, and hospital policy regarding payment of bills to patients and their families.
  • Bills third parties in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Maintains departmental records, reports, and files.
  • Provides information to patients/families in a manner that considers safety, comfort, privacy, and therapeutic environment.
  • Maintains a strict sense of accountability.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Years of Relevant Experience: May be substituted for required education.
  • Required Skills: Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, stress management, and understanding of CPT and/or ICD10 coding (preferred).
  • Minimum Work Experience: 1 year related experience; 3 years in hospital/physician setting preferred.

Qualifications

How You'll Contribute

The Patient Financial Services Representative coordinates all financial aspects of the patient's hospitalization and/or office visits. This involves interpreting and explaining charges, services, and hospital policy regarding payment of bills, billing third parties, maintaining departmental records, reports, and files, providing information to patients/families, and maintaining a strict sense of accountability.
