Patient Coordinator

About the role

Akumin is a leading provider of outpatient radiology and oncology services, partnering with top hospitals and health systems nationwide to deliver advanced diagnostic imaging and exceptional patient care close to home. We are currently hiring for a Patient Coordinator at our Coral Springs facility. This will be a part time position.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Performs patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Makes collections for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization.
• Preliminarily screens patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
• Transports patients to/from the exam room.
• Assists in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• Provides preliminary and post-procedure instructions to patients.
• Prepares the mobile setting for transport.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Orders supplies and ensures the work area is properly stocked.
• Ensures accuracy of patient records.
• Schedules patient appointments and obtains insurance verification and/or authorization.
• Prepares medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Documents patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• Assists the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• Valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
