Patient Companion/Safety Sitter - Full Time - Days

Core Job Responsibilities

• Provide continuous 1:1 observation for patients requiring enhanced safety monitoring (e.g., fall risk, confusion, behavioral risk, etc.)
• Maintain a safe patient environment and immediately report changes in condition, behavior or safety concerns to the RN.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication
• Ensure call light and personal items are within patient reach.
• Participates in bedside shift report with direct care staff members.
• Completes observation documentation using assigned tools or checklists.
• Takes initiative in rendering service or responding to needs.
• Affords assistance in keeping the patient's room safe, orderly and clean.
• Obtains and records limited vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature; excluding oximeter). Immediately reports abnormal findings to RN.
• Makes measurements and records non-evasive intake and output. Reports concerns.
• Affords assistance with limited mobility and repositioning of patient
• Affords assistance with toileting (escort and set up only), providing water, snacks or meals as ordered. Linen adjustments and comfort positioning.
• Responds to call lights and communicates patient needs to staff.

Education/Experience Requirements

• REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent
• MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills that can be used to deal effectively with patient population.
• ABILITY TO REMAIN ALERT WITH UNINTERRUPTED FOCUS ON THE PATIENT AT ALL TIMES.
• PREFERRED: 6 months of experience in health care or security

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• REQUIRED: Ability to obtain BLS certification.
