Patient Companion - CCFSR

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry.
• If assigned to a closed unit, observe three to four patients.
• Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
• Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.
• Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
• Follow protocols and initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
• Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for healthcare providers upon or within the three months of hire
• Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program or equivalent experience
• OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course
• OR have completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent
• Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
